It costs $15 for obtaining an Alabama death certificate, plus an additional $6 for any other copies made at the same time.

Alabama Center for Health Statistics is responsible for maintaining the vital record system. You can obtain death records from the Center through the health department of your county.

Alabama Center for Health Statistics started to maintain death certificates from 1908, for those who died in Alabama. Alabama ranks 2nd for increased number of deaths, due to heart disease. 12, 896 people died in the State, in the year 2005, because of heart diseases. Cancer, Stroke, chronic lower respiratory disease and accidents, were just some of the important reasons for deaths. Death certificates are more confidential and can be accessed only for 25 years from the day of death. In order to obtain Alabama death records, you need to provide the full name of the deceased person, sex, place of death, month, day and year of death, social security number, age at death and the name of the parents.

If Alabama death records are required for a person aged less than 25 years, then they can be obtained only by the mother or father of the deceased persons husband or wife, son or daughter, sister or brother, grandchildren or legal representative of the family. You need to pay the fee to get the death certificate by check or Money order, which should be made payable to Vital records.
