Obtaining Divorce Records In California

The office only has records from July 1962 and June 1984, all other records can be obtained from the superior court in the county where the divorce occured.

To lookup California Divorce certificates and papers it will cost $13. A personal check or money order should be made payable to the Office of Vital Records. However you should phone (916) 445-2684 to verify fees. The number will have a recorded message on how to apply. California Office of Vital records maintain divorce records from the year 1962 to 1984.  You can get a face sheet of the divorce record that contains the name of the couple, date of filing, county name and case number of the divorce. The certified copy of divorce record is essential for legal proceeding and remarriage. The copies of California divorce records can be obtained from the Superior Court in the county, in which the divorce was filed.

California divorce records include information, such as full name of husband, full name of wife, age and date of birth of husband and wife, type of decree, date of divorce and county. The requestor should send his application form along with the appropriate fee. He/she needs to draw the check on a bank in the United States or money order issued by the Postal Service in US. The fees are nonrefundable, according to state law.
