It is however necessary for the written request to be made by an immediate family member. If you are a resident of this state wanting access to death records before 1897, you must contact the town clerk in the city where the death occurred. If you apply to the state for a death certificate you will have to pay a fee of $15 and if you want access to a death certificate from the city, then you have to pay $10 towards this.
