In Delaware, from the year 1913, events like births, marriages, divorces and deaths are recorded at the Delaware Department of Public Health’s Office of Vital Statistics. Delaware death certificates from the year 1969 can be found at the Vital Statistics archives. Access to these records is however restricted to those who provide proof of relationship and who have direct interest.

Death statistics in 2005 shows an adult death rate of 871.2 every 100,000 people and an infant death rate of 8.62 per 100,000 infants.

In order to obtain death certificates in this state, you can visit the Vital Statistics department and give in a written request along with supporting documents such as your photo ID or parent identification. In order to obtain a certified death certificate copy, you must also fill in a form accurately and send it to the Delaware death records department with a check or money order.

If you are requesting a certified death certificate copy, you must pay a fee of $25. A portion of the fee you pay is donated by the state to the distressed cemetery fund. Any fee you pay is non-refundable even if for any reason the Delaware death records department is unable to locate the death certificate you ask for.
