Information about Georgia
Empire State of the South

Capital: Atlanta

Although it may not be as profitable to grow peaches in Georgia as it once was, it will forever be known as 'The Peach State'. Currently, over 40 types of peaches are grown in this southern US state. The late 1800's were the most popular time for Georgia peach farmers as the cotton crops were being taken over by the boll weevil. Post the Civil War, southern states needed other agricultural means to rely on besides cotton, and peaches became a great resource.

Nowadays, Georgia is more known for being the number one producer of pecans in the world. The largest poultry convention in the world is held in Georgia each year, and the Masters Golf Tournament is also held every April in the city of Augusta.

In recent years, Georgia has had an increased affect in the music industry, thanks largely in part to Georgians such as Kanye West, Ludacris, Sugarland and Ray Charles.
