Information about Idaho
The Gem State

Capital: Boise

Bordering six states and one province of Canada, Idaho is mainly associated by its nickname, the Spud State, largely in part to being the producer of virtually one third of the potatoes in the nation. However, science and technology hold the title of the largest industry in Idaho, accounting for approximately 70% of the State's exports.

Aside from potatoes, Idaho is also known for being outdoor-oriented; with a varied climate, whitewater rafting and skiing are some of the popular tourist activities in the area due to it being a mainly mountainous state. America's oldest ski resort is located in central Idaho, called Sun Valley, which is also the place of the world's first chairlift.

Unheard of to most people, Idaho can also be referred to as the Gem State because nearly every gem known to man has been found in its land.

Some notable Idahoans include Lou Dobbs, Ernest Hemingway, and Picabo Street.
