Located in the Midwestern United States, the state of Iowa is located in the heart of the American Heartland. At the time there were many Native American tribes who lived in these areas and one of them was the Iowa tribe through whom this states gets its name. Public records in Iowa are maintained by the Iowa Department of Public Health, Bureau of Vital Statistics. This bureau maintains information of births and deaths in the state along with Iowa Marriage certificates. The department started officially registering these records from 1st July 1880. Those who are entitled to obtain these records are spouses, children, legal parents, grandparents, grandchildren, siblings, or any legal representative or guardian. How ever for guardians, legal representatives, and siblings additional proof of entitlement would be required for access to Iowa marriage records and other documentation.

Certified copies of birth, death or marriage papers can be procured certificates from the state office of vital records by telephone, in-person, or through a postal service. Appropriate charges for the same will be applicable.
