The name 'Iowa' is derived from the Indian tribe, Ioway, who had occupied the state during the European exploration. Sometimes referred to as The American Heartland, Iowa has often been named one of the safest places to live in the US.
Iowa is located in the middle of what is occasionally referred to as the Corn Belt, and it is also part of the Grain Belt. The names of these certain areas in the US explain the reason; these regions produce a significant amount of the world's grain, soybean and corn crops. Because of the amount of crops it supplies, Iowa has sometimes been known as 'The Food Capital of the World'. Although Iowa is not famous for world-class wine, surprisingly enough, it has over 70 wineries and a handful of wine tasting trails.
In addition, many large financial and insurance companies are headquartered in Iowa, including Farm Bureau Financial Services, HNI, and Nationwide Insurance.
