Information about Maryland
Old Line State

Capital: Annapolis

Maryland is often referred to 'America in Miniature' due to the fact that so much is condensed within its 10,500 square miles of both land and water. Aside from desert, all types of terrain can be found within Maryland as well as all kinds of ethnicities, with the working class and upper class living side by side.

Of all the 50 states, Maryland ranks first as having the highest median income, averaging around $70,000. With a handful of institutions and agencies, including The Johns Hopkins University, the FDA, and a close proximity to Washington, DC, Maryland has the nation's lowest poverty rate and is home to two of the nation's wealthiest counties.

Annapolis, Maryland is at times called 'America's sailing capital'. With a population of over 35,000 residents, it is home to the United State's Naval Academy and is Maryland's capital city. In 2007, it hosted a Middle East peace conference, suitably named the Annapolis Conference.
