Information about Massachusetts
Old Colony State

Capital: Boston

Massachusetts’s history has been of significant importance within the United States; from being North America’s second English settlement to becoming the first state to legally recognize same-sex marriage, this Bay State has played many vital roles throughout the centuries.

Education and innovation in Massachusetts are two of the strongest and oldest in our nation. It is said that the state is the birthplace of education, and is also home to the oldest public library in the nation. Harvard University is located in the greater-Boston area of Massachusetts and is the oldest institution of advanced learning in America; the first racially integrated high school is located in Lowell.

The telephone was invented by Alexander Graham Bell in Boston, and the sewing machine was invented in the same city 30 years prior.

Outdoor recreation is a popular theme throughout the state; yachting, sailing, and fishing are top hobbies throughout the coastline, while hiking, hunting, and cross-country skiing are top attractions throughout the undeveloped lands.
