Information about New Hampshire
Granite State

Capital: Concord

New Hampshire’s motto of “Live Free or Die” is quite assertive compared to the rest of the nation’s mottos, especially for such a small state. However, this Granite State plays of big significance in the history of the United States, past and present.

The first US state to have its own constitution was New Hampshire, and it was also the first state out of the thirteen colonies to declare its independence. Some other notable ‘firsts’ for New Hampshire include being on the opposite end of the first trans-Atlantic telecommunication cables that stretched from Ireland to Rye Beach. Our nation’s first credit union was also established in New Hampshire to assist mill workers with saving and borrowing funds. It was in 2007 that it became the first state to embrace same-sex unions devoid of a court order, or the intimidation of one.

It is important to note that people of New Hampshire do not get their income taxed by either the state or local level, and has no general sales tax, which makes it a popular destination for residents of neighboring states.
