Information about North Dakota
Rough Rider State

Capital: Bismarck

As of the beginning of 2010, North Dakota ranked lowest in the unemployment rate, of only 4.2%. This is a significant number compared to the nation's average of 9.7%, and the highest of 14.6% in Michigan. Despite the low unemployment rate, the state has had a constant decline in population throughout the past few decades, and the lack of experienced jobs for recent graduates may contribute to the dilemma, forcing them to relocate elsewhere.

Religion plays an important role for most North Dakotans. There are more churches per capita than any other state, and has the lowest percentage of non-religious people, and the highest rate of church-going residents.

The largest industry in North Dakota is agriculture, with petroleum and food-processing close behind. It is the only state with a state-owned bank and flour mill.

The popular film, Fargo, takes its name from the most populous city of the state, although most of the film was based on events in Minnesota.
