The Green Mountain State, which is its nickname, is the nation’s leading producer of maple syrup, with 920,000 gallons produced annually.

Vermont is a relatively small state in the Northeast, and is the second least-populated in all of the US. It is also the only New England state without an Atlantic Ocean coastline. Burlington is the state’s largest city, and no other state has a large city as small as it. Montpelier is the capital of Vermont, and is the smallest capital city in the nation.

Throughout the last decade, Vermont has been at the top of the rankings in regards to the health and safety of its residents. As of 2010, it ranked highest in the US for health outcomes, and for seven years straight was the top place in the nation as the healthiest place to reside.
